Bio
Drummer/percussionist Alastair McGrath-Kerr is recognised as one of Australia’s leading exponents of Brazilian percussion and jazz drumming. He teaches drum kit and ensemble studies at Monash University, and is an expert in VCE Solo Performance and VCE Music Investigation. Alastair studied under legendary teacher Col Hoorweg at the Canberra School of Music, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Teaching Info
I’m an experienced and fully qualified teacher, with over 15 years teaching experience, and 15+ years experience as a professional musician. I have guided students through exams (AMEB and St Cecilia), as well as helping students gain entry to tertiary courses (ANU, VCA, Monash, NMIT), and others still have continued lessons just for the love of music.
As well as drum kit, I teach Brazilian percussion and Orchestral percussion, and can help students through theory coursework, including VCE units 3&4, and VCE Music Investigation.
