Bio

Hi, I’m Caitlin, and I’m a music teacher based in Berwick. I’ve studied music for as long as I can remember, and have an acute interest in all types of sound. I’ve been teaching for several years, both privately to adults and children, and in primary and high schools. I teach piano, voice, guitar, violin, composition, theory and a bit of music technology. I really enjoy playing games in lessons, and believe the best learning happens when the student is laughing. I can teach most styles, though most commonly teach classical, contemporary, and jazz music; however, I LOVVEEE video games (even though I fail miserably playing most of them!) so if you like video game music, get ready for some awesome tunes!

Teaching Info

Lessons are structured to cater to individual needs – different instruments have different lesson plans and requirements, but the main goal is always to leave a lesson with some sense of achievement and to have had fun. Generally, younger students who can read letters and numbers fluently will begin reading notation with lots of activities and games to help with their general musicianship. For most students, at least half the lesson will be spent working on specific pieces on their chosen instrument, and the remainder of the lesson is spent developing their musicianship through technical work (scales, arpeggios, strength exercises etc.), games, theory, general knowledge, listening, and reflection. I believe the most important thing is to be engaging to the student, as people do not learn unless they have a purpose or reason.
