Hi, my name is Ed and I’m looking forward to helping you learn to play the clarinet (THE BEST INSTRUMENT IN THE WORLD!)
I’ve been playing the clarinet for 23 years and my favorite thing to do is to show people how cool it is. I’ve taught students in schools all around Victoria for 13 years and have helped them achieve their best in concerts, competitions, auditions, scholarship applications, AMEB and VCE exams.
I’ve also worked with adult students at the Border Music Camp and Bendigo Symphony Orchestra. Learning an instrument later in life is such a rewarding experience and I enjoy working with these passionate learners.
I’ve had quite a varied career as a performer. I’ve toured with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, played sold out shows at Melbourne’s iconic Bennetts Lane Jazz Club and performed at the Metropolis New Music Festival. I bring this wealth of knowledge and understanding of a wide range of musical styles to my teaching.
I’m passionate about music education and making music accessible for all people. In 2016, I toured regional Victoria with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s education team, delivering workshops and performances to primary and high school students. In 2018 I toured regional Victoria again performing “Once Upon a Tune” with Morna and the Minims for Regional Arts Victoria. I’ve since then also worked for the Melbourne Sea Shanty Society, advocating the wellbeing benefits of group singing in the wider community.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your musical goals!
Students can expect a structured approach to lessons with clear goals to work towards for the next lesson.
I’ll work with you to make sure that you know exactly how to improve each lesson and so that you have the skills to understand any piece of music.
Students can expect activities and repertoire tailored to their individual needs, learning styles and interests. Each lesson we will also make a recording of any technical exercises designed to help you improve specific skills in your pieces so that you can play along with these recordings between lessons.
Most of all though lessons are fun, engaging and filled with a love for music!
