Bio

A Voice Coach, Music Director and Orchestrator, David is currently 1st Associate Voice Coach to Tim Smith & Vocal Alchemy Australia. Having completed studies in Music Direction for musicals at Goodspeed Institute Of Musical Theatre in Connecticut & The Young Conductor’s Program at the Victorian College of The Arts, David continues to be contracted for performance and voice masterclasses, as well as conducting and Music Direction engagements, in Australia and overseas.

With a wealth of knowledge in all facets of the entertainment industry, its no surprise that David’s voice students can be seen in every major musical currently playing in Australia, and many of them also enjoying sustainable careers overseas.  Recently he worked as voice coach on the Australian productions of “Glorious” and “Calendar Girls’

While spending 8 years as Resident Music Director at Patrick Studios Australia, David held the position of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Melbourne Rainbow Band producing numerous milestone concerts and special events.

He has assisted in the Music Department for King Kong Live On Stage (Global Creatures), Gypsy (The Production Company), Nice Work If You Can Get it (The Production Company), McCubbin – A New Australian Opera, Curtains (The Production Company) as well as the Stephen Schwartz Triptych for Magnormos and most recently as Children’s Voice Coach/Repetiteur for Matilda The Musical – Australasia (Louise Withers and Associates),

Provided original orchestrations for Seriously – The Pet Shop Boys Reinterpreted (Australia and Edinburgh) “Normie – The Musical” (Musical Theatre Guild Award – Best New Orchestration) and “Crossroads” – A New Australian Musical for which he was also the Music Supervisor and “Precipice” for the National Institute of Circus Arts.  As well as orchestrating and Music Directing cabaret shows for several Australian Musical Theatre artists.

Assistant Music Directed and programmed keyboards for productions of Les Miserables, West Side Story, Sondheim On Sondheim (Manilla St Productions), City Of Angels (Life Like Company), Children Of Eden and Sweeney Todd.

And Music Directed productions of Avenue Q, (Trifle Theatre Co.), Company (Music Theatre Guild Award –Best Music Direction), Sweeney Todd, Godspell, Chicago, La Chuisa’s – The Wild Party, Spring Awakening, A Chorus Line and in 2016 – Reefer Madness (RL Productions), NINE- In Concert (Marilla St Productions) and international artist – Natalie Weiss’ Australian Tour


Teaching Info

David boasts an up to date knowledge of vocal pedagogy and an inherit passion for communication and learning – He provides coaching sessions for all skill levels and ages, in group or individual environments, Not only providing technique for safe and durable singing production but also providing advice and developing better skills for voice production within radio announcers, public speakers, teachers etc. His mature age students continue to enjoy sustainable careers in the Arts and Entertainment Industry while his adolescent and early childhood students enjoy integrating their music/ voice techniques into the social and family environment.
