Bio
Hi there, I have been playing in bands in the United States and Australia for the last 30 years. I have been teaching for the last 15 years and have a small home studio where I typically conduct lessons in Patterson Lakes, Victoria Australia. Having been in the USA for the last 11 years; I still teach my US students via Skype and Zoom calls and can offer this service to Aussie students as well – although it is often preferable to have face to face lessons (especially at the start).
I have many YouTube videos showing everything from how to play a specific song through to music theory and bass guitar techniques (Here is an example of a lesson discussing bass fills and turnarounds for the Blues (Intermediate level -main discussion starts at about the 3.00 mark) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc-mY592BDw.
I pride myself on providing a comfortable environment to learn and explore music on the bass guitar. The first lesson is always FREE (I can even provide a loaner bass and amplifier if you are still contemplating learning and just want to try it out)
Please note I am :
- Qualified with a Grad Dip in Education (TAFE level) from Melbourne University
- Triple vaccinated against COVID 19 (as is the entire household / studio)
Teaching Info
I am very flexible with how we approach lessons and can either provide a formal structured approach that covers everything from the most basic aspects of the instrument and music through to specific focus lessons on things like :
Learning a particular tune
Slap Bass technique
Music Theory (modes, chords, etc)
etc, etc
I love helping new students who have never even played an instrument before, by providing a safe friendly learning environment that is underscored with enough years of experience and music theory that I can move along with students at a rate that is comfortable for them.
Here is a sample of one of my online videos where I am talking about hand placement. This is aimed at Beginner level players (although it’s always good to be reminded of simple things even for advance players) I actually made this video for a specific student after one of our lessons and put it up as a private video for her but after some time changed it to a public video as the link got shared with my other students. (So this one is not quite up to my usual production standard – look for the cat 3:16) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNmyELZEe-g&t=180s
A slightly more advance style of video lesson is this one where I am explaining how to play a country tune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyqQ7IC2HFw&t=495s
Please feel free to look up more of my YouTube Lessons – Or even better come and see me for some in-person or zoom/skype lessons !
Peace Jon
